Inspiring Gallery Venues

A beautiful or interesting space influences the tone of an event, affecting the décor, dress code – even conversation. As event planners, it’s our job to present venues that inspire and excite our clients and their guests. Why not suggest one of Toronto’s many galleries and let the art set the atmosphere for your next event? These are a few of my favourites.

Design Exchange, the former grandiose site of the Toronto Stock Exchange, offers spaces for events of all sizes. The elegantly restored trading floor, complete with beautiful murals by renowned artist Charles Comfort and a spiral staircase, is perfect for large events. The exhibit hall is a divine space to sip cocktails amidst rotating displays devoted to design.

The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery showcases contemporary art in a historic setting overlooking the Toronto harbour. A former powerhouse, the gallery offers an avant-garde setting for events ranging from cocktail receptions to sit-down affairs.

Todmorden Mills Heritage Site is a lovely city-owned property, nestled amidst a 9.2-hectare wildflower preserve in the Don Valley. Two spaces, the Brewery Gallery and Papermill Theatre and Gallery, show rotating exhibitions from local art clubs and artists. The site also offers a 164-seat theatre to rent.

Well worth the short drive from Toronto is the McMichael Canadian Art Collection. Devoted to Canadian art, the facility invites guests to experience Canada’s premiere artists, including First Nations artists, the Group of Seven, and their contemporaries, in the stunning natural landscape that inspired them. The gallery offers personalized services during events, including private viewings, guided tours, and art workshops.

As always, be sure to preview the space and exhibition on display to determine whether the venue is appropriate for your audience. Art can provoke strong emotional reactions, and you want to be sure the tone and message is suitable for your event.
