Hy’s Steakhouse & Cocktail Bar embodies that rarefied dining experience, with aged cuts cooked to order and Caesar salad prepared tableside. A Toronto institution since 1969 (the first restaurant launched in Calgary in 1954), Hy’s just reopened on Bay Street after the lease expired at its old financial district home in 2018.There’s something timeless about a classic steakhouse. In fact, steakhouses have a dining culture all of their own, offering well-appointed, elegant settings and upscale menus that go hand-in-hand with martinis and fine wine.
The new three storey, 18,000-sq.-ft. space continues the tradition of opulent fine dining. Rich wood, white-linen tables, handsome leather chairs, and lots of bookshelves and Canadian art fill the restaurant. A mezzanine dining area, complete with its own whisky and champagne bar, overlooks the main floor lounge where an oversized bar and plenty of cozy banquette booths and cocktail tables encourage casual eating and sipping. The mezzanine is also home to a 16-seat private dining area. Two additional private dining rooms, serviced by a separate kitchen, preside on the lower level. Each offers its own exclusive bar and full A-V, the largest seating 48. Group menus are available, but customization is welcome. The new location also offers an expanded choice of non-meat dishes and alcohol-free cocktails.
