York Mills Gallery Opens

There’s a new urban-industrial loft-style space in town located at Leslie and York Mills, with easy highway-accessibility. York Mills Gallery is a designated private event venue opened earlier this fall. Billing out as New York-hip-meets-Miami-chic, the space offers 15,000-sq-ft. of open-concept blank-canvas event promise.

Love the towering, industrial warehouse ceiling with full audio-visual effects and drop-down crystal chandelier globes. Build on the rustic wooden aesthetics of the on-site bar. Add cocktail cruisers for full-on cocktail reception, theatre-style seating for meetings, or dining tables for galas and weddings. Kosher catering is available. Proximity to Toronto Botanical Gardens, a favourite wedding photo backdrop, is a bonus. Capacity: 700 reception-style; 400 sit-down

Graphic Recorder Captures Meetings

Shannon Loomer of Thinkbank is a graphic scribe: an illustrator facilitator of ideas, thoughts and comments. With coloured markers in hand, and blank canvas at the ready, Loomer becomes the conduit for a meeting’s working ideas, capturing live interaction, dialogue and content in reader-friendly visuals. The immediacy of the drawings inspires further conversation around emerging messaging.

Post-meeting, the resulting visual is fine-tuned as an engaging and accessible document. Loomer has over 15 years of information design and learning content development, which also includes video scribing, a medium that brings illustration and stop-motion photography, animation and videography together. Use the elements of a graphic recording to feed internal or external material and messaging including info-graphics, website graphics, posters, PowerPoints and more.

Gelato Meets Events

La Vizziata is a new gelateria and dessert bar in the west-end’s Junction neighbourhood. The fresh-looking space, dressed in vanilla white with edgy aluminum furnishings warmed by exposed brick, scoops up house-made gelato in a rainbow of flavours and served in other novel treats such as gelato brioche, dessert waffles and more. The long, narrow space makes for a unique hosting venue with a menu that extends into paninis, pizza and gelato-teambuilding lessons. A designated private room seats 30, doubling the shop’s event capacity to 80 guests.

Event catering is also on the menu. Order up tubs of customized flavours for delivery. Chili chocolate and salted caramel are house signatures along with gluten-free, dairy-free and vegan flavours. The shop can also bring its mobile scooping station and dessert bar to events. Website coming soon; visit Facebook in the meantime.
