Macarons, those airy-ganache-filled-pretty-pastel-meringue-based confections, just hit a new popularity spike with the December landing of Ladurée at Yorkdale Mall. This is the first Toronto location of the famed Parisian patisserie whose celebrated macaron-making history dates back to 1862. Deliciously delightful, the boutique’s pistachio-hued exterior gives way to a soft pink interior, elegantly bedazzled with high ceilings, marble, black-and-white tile and gold lattice accents. A crystal chandelier crowns the sweet glory.
Towers of signature-flavoured macarons fill display cases along with luxury chocolates, specialty teas, jams and other Ladurée-branded edibles and accessories such as candles. Opulent packaging prevails which makes for luxe gift giving. Pre-order sweet table treats for in-store pick up. There’s also a 26-seat tea salon. Book a group for the very refined Afternoon Tea, replete with finger sandwiches, French toast and croque monsieurs, macarons and other classic sweet and savouries.
