Mermaids For Hire
Marielle Chartier Hénault knows mermaids! The swim instructor, model and professional mermaid recently launched
AquaMermaid, a unique swimming school that trains kids and adults in the fine art (and fitness) of being a mermaid, complete with sparkly tails and graceful water moves. Toronto is the school’s second location. The original is in Montreal with more school’s opening this fall in Ottawa and Jamaica.
In addition to creating future mermaids, the company’s team of 15 professional mermaids and mermen models are available for special events and product launches. Along with dry-dock posing and photo shoots, full-scale synchronized productions can be tailored to events and bodies of water, whether it be a pool, lake, fish tank, or even a bath tub! Staging props include a giant sea shell. The company also offers its full mermaid wardrobe for hire.
A Distinctive Caterer
Heading into its fifth year in business, executive chef/owner Lauren Mozer launched Elle Cuisine as a one-woman show specializing in personal chef services and private dining experiences for in-home clients. Thanks mainly to word of mouth references, Elle has evolved into a full-service event management company for small to large-scale social and corporate events with a mainly female team of nine, offering everything from catering and florals to décor and staffing. “Our success is in our collaboration and meticulous planning, both within our team and with our clients,” says Mozer.
Inspired by classical French cooking, Elle’s dishes and flavours shine on a plate with fresh ingredients and artful plating. Distinctive is the company’s interactive food stations with diverse cuisines and plate to-order options highlighting the synergy between food and social connections. Notable is a ramen noodle bar and individual stations offering handmade steam buns, Spanish paella, gourmet Mac ‘n Cheese as well as ice-cream sundaes, personal-sized home-baked pies and more. Culinary teambuilding and cooking classes are also available.
Murderously Fun Entertainment
There are spectator shows, and then there are funny, interactive shows like BigTime Murder Productions that draw audiences into the action as impromptu witnesses and suspects — they’ll even kill off one of your guests, if you want. Murder mystery theatre, BigTime’s specialty, has had staying power as a group entertainment option for over 23 years. The premise is simple: An event, where the guest list of unsuspecting attendees is peppered with character actors, is interrupted by the appearance of a dead body and comedic capers ensue as the quest begins to find the killer in the room.
The company offers several staging choices, from a 90-minute no-meal DIY presentation or 2.5-hour full corporate dinner production to a one-hour variety show that’s a mash-up of America’s Got Talent and American Idol. BigTime’s casts tailor shows to theme and venues including in-office parties. Along with corporate events, the company is a big fundraising supporter hosting several charity events a year.
