Did you make it out to Canadian Special Events Live last month? The annual trade show is a must-attend hotspot for industry learning, networking and idea inspiration.
Here’s a sampling of just six of the many creative companies we noted during our exhibit-floor walkabout:
It’s an ice cream parlour … It’s a mobile event space … It’s Mr. Wilson, a Montreal-based brand activation company that’s now available in Toronto. Mr. Wilson’s uniformed ice cream mixologists scoop up delicious flavours from either cute pop-up stands or from the firm’s Airstream trailer. A choice of over 50 confectionary toppings invites guests to build their own ice cream cup. The sleek, silver Airstream is also central to the firm’s experiential marketing capabilities. Personalize the trailer with branded signage, food experiences and promotional sampling, or customize the interior as a mini-lounge or meeting space.
Light up the party with illuminated furniture and décor. Aura Effect specializes in glowing LED rentals, from lounge seating, chairs and tables to bars and playful display accents like orbs and open cubes. There’s ample modular design compatibility in the durable, waterproof polyethelen plastic inventory to create cool inside-outside layouts and seating arrangements. Remote control the rechargeable LED light that sits inside each piece, or set it to auto, for multiple colours and patterns that can stay either static, flash, fade or strobe. The furnishings arrive fully charged for a 10- to 12-hour glow. Customize with logos, images and decals.
Oh, the places vinyl can go! On walls, on floors, even wrapped around objects, like cars. Event Graffiti, a print and sign firm specializing in large-format vinyl production, creates and installs customized backdrops, signage and more. Think red-carpet step and repeats, dance floor logos, and photographic and wallpaper-based backgrounds. Work with the company’s in-house design team to source powerful stock images or supply your own digital art file. Repositionable peel-and-stick write-on chalkboard and white-board vinyl are also available. Super fun are the company’s vintage-style marquee lights with an inventory of over 80 oversized letters, numbers, hashtag and @ symbols.
Furnish A Look
Don’t underestimate the visual power of chairs when it comes to choosing guest seating. Even the utilitarian aluminum folding option of old has updated to high-end resin to keep pace with style demand and durability. Vibe Rentals, a family-operated business launched in 2015 after purchasing the namesake company which began in 2013, makes chairs, tables and cushions its rental niche. Vintage Chiavari is a specialty but we also love the look of the Madison chair with its distinctive “infinity” oval back rest. The line is available in clear, black and silver. Padded cushions finish the profile in five elegant colours. A wide inventory of tables includes bistro rounds, fill-and-chills and portable bars.
Looking for powerhouse entertainment like Adele, Katy Perry or Elton John without the bank-breaking appearance fees? In Entertainment has an impressive roster of celebrity impersonators whose spot-on visual and vocal impressions are, well, impressive. This one-stop entertainment source offers a variety of other talent including Latin and belly dancers, live bands, singers, magicians, and costumed actors, along with fun and interactive novelty performances like singing telegrams. The company is also a recognized supplier of the iPhotoLounge, a sleek photo booth that digitally crops and superimposes guests onto themed video and still backgrounds for social media sharing.
Drones are already flying high in the event business as novel ways to capture fresh photo angles, live stream content, air drop giveaways and more. Taking the use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) to the next level is Arrowonics, pushing them straight into the entertainment zone with choreographed light shows synced to music. The Toronto-based startup is the first Canadian company to use state-of-the-art swarm technology to create aerial light displays using large fleets of drones. The software runs off a laptop to control Transport Canada-approved performances, animating the night sky with colourful patterns, shapes, text and logos. Customized productions are available.
