BuzzFeed readers recently ranked Burlington, ON’s Kelly’s Bake Shoppe third among the Best 25 Cupcake Shops In The World. Being the only vegan bakery on the list is quite the testament to the flavourful quality of Kelly’s tempting gluten-free, dairy-free, egg and peanut-free goodies. “We are thrilled!” says Kelly Childs, who opened the bakery with daughter Erinn Weatherbie in 2012. The shop has quickly attracted a devoted following along with numerous awards and media appearances.
With dietary restrictions growing, catering is one of the bakery’s mainstays including treats for a recent Lululemon store opening and cupcakes by the dozens delivered daily to the IT Lounge at this year’s TIFF. The menu is vast, from cupcakes and brownies to cookies, donuts, ice cream and more. There are even goodie bags of vegan jelly beans and gummie bears. Event and gift presentations are as pretty as the desserts, wrapped in beribboned packages and cello-bags or styled into decadent sweet tables. “To hold equal appeal to those with and without allergies is an incredible treat for us!” says Childs.
