Florals are wonderful, but unique centrepieces filled with natural elements and succulents are on trend. Studio Mikafleur is a new flower boutique specializing in the Japanese art of Ikebana (living flowers), Kokedama (moss plantings) and terrariums for strikingly dramatic arrangements. Owner Mika Sato has been designing flowers for over 25 years. Prior to opening the shop in September 2017, she was a fixture at craft markets selling beautiful one-of-a-kind floral and plant gifts arranged in the stylish vases and pots that she hand-creates.
Many of Sato’s arrangements feature orchids, succulents and air plants along with moss and branches that she often forages for locally. “Landscaping event tables with living arrangements as opposed to cut flowers is a wonderful no-waste option,” notes Sato. Flower arranging workshops, including Kokedama and terrarium plantings, are also available. Book an in-studio session for up to 12 participants or Sato can bring the materials, tools and know-how to your venue. Small plantings in Sato’s pottery pieces also make for lovely event gifts.
