We’re loving the lively lemon, lime, orange and pinks currently heating up the event scene. What fun! Colour is the ultimate mood maker, breathing life into a venue’s canvas, enwrapping guests in a very special sense of occasion. From rooms awash in multi-hued lighting to the colour splash of florals and linens, the palette is the thing to set the scene. While we haven’t yet had our fill of this season’s zany freshness, let’s spin the colour wheel for the initial fall-winter forecast. While solid colour blocks wow, we’re mad about plaid in a range of shades and patterns, especially the signature Burberry print (hello red, camel, black and Brilliant jewel tones of Morocco and India smoulder in luxe fabrics of deep indigo and sapphire, golds, cranberry and emerald. This is the backdrop to pull out all the exotic stops with bejeweled ornaments and baubles hanging from center pieces and coloured glassware.
This summer’s pink extends its stay beyond Labour Day, blushing lushly into deep fuchsia, a flirty companion to the marvelous chocolate tones that are proving so popular (ta, ta black!). Pair the yummy browns with blue, another favourite hue this year. Retro fun yet elegant. Fall events usher in nature’s blaze of autumn glory in burnt reds, pumpkin orange, wheat yellow with a backdrop of pine green. Mix and match patterns, textures and colours for design depth. For big impact, consolidate a chosen hue in florals or tabletopper vases and jars filled with grasses, gourds and vegetables, sand and stones. Dynamic visuals meet the duo of rich red and black played up in a richness of glamorous linens. Add textural dimension with layering of swish fabrics such as chiffon, silk and velvet. Heavy brocades show an elegant colour card of taupe and brown accents. Metals du jour: copper and pewter. Find their place in tableware accessories such as charger plates and napkin rings (making a big comeback) and linens shot through with shimmering threads and patterns.
