Club Patrol

BACK

For all the heat that this city’s nightclubs take for the antics of its weekend patrons, they still remain excellent venue choices for corporate events, product launches and premiere parties seeking an ultra-hip veneer.

Packed with state-of-the-art lighting and sound, there isn’t much to do beyond setting the event to play off a club’s distinctive canvas and features. For corporate hosting, clubs are typically available Sunday to Thursday, with some weekend exceptions before public opening.

As planners know, turnover in clubs is notorious. While the latest and greatest make for hot invites, proceed with caution in advanced future bookings. TSEvents XS offers this shortlist of clubs, coveted for their corporate event know-how and hosting facilities:

Circa

Nightclub impresario Peter Gatien recently got the green light to open his much-touted four-storey 55,000 sq. ft. space this month. Dubbing it an “interactive cultural showcase,” the venue taps into the local and global arts scene with ever-changing art installations, museum-style display cases and dazzling multimedia/ a-v. At a total capacity of 3,000, each floor is aesthetically awesome with several distinct, often self-contained, areas to accommodate multiple functions.

The main floor hits an industrial-style groove with stage, plentiful space and a soaring ceiling that provides clear sightlines from the balconies of each level above (Capacity: 1,000). On three, The Ballroom indulges in an art deco-luxe private social club vibe (Capacity: 400). An ultra-mod Skyy Cinema Lounge features a 16-ft. film screen and seating for 120.

Other highlights include the SensaCell Bar with interactive, touch-sensitive light surfaces, the oceanic-themed Fathom 22 Bar, and The KidRobot Room, where guests can party in a shrine to these ultra-hot collectible characters.

The D’Luxe Lounge at The Guvernment

The Guvernment

A $3-million renovation takes this revered golden oldie from tired warehouse chic to energized, funkadelic hang spot. A structural overhaul loads its once cavernous main space with FX tricks and colourful treats Along with plentiful banquet and lounge seating, the stage is now centred with a hydraulic DJ booth, VIP seating and bar. LED plasma walls are home to images and scrolling text, with links to moveable projectors and a retractable giant screen (Capacity: 1,200).

Mix and match event spaces according to needs. Striking décor dresses the second level. With its own private entrance, the D’Luxe Lounge, in über black and white, fronts the mezzanine area with working window enclosures and a VIP section cantilevered over the DJ booth (Capacity: 150). For groups of up to 550, pair it with The Drink, lush in sexy reds with interactive shadow screen “stages.” The Skybar remains a beloved outdoor patio.

This Is London does living room plush well

This Is London

Work a “mature” urban crowd within this gilded, velvet-plush 6,000 sq. ft. club. Redesigned a year ago, think plummy two-storey Victorian mansion with a wood-burning fireplace in the entrance, sink-into paisley print chaises, gentleman’s club chairs, eclectic antiques and dripping chandeliers. Distinctive décor themes mark lounge and VIP areas throughout.

Cocktail receptions with food stations flow well on both levels with main floor capacity at 450 and second level at 350. Juliet balconies offer a bird’s eye view of action below. Sit-downs are doable on the main (Capacity: 120). As a conversation starter, you can’t beat the club’s second floor spa-style women’s washroom. Surely the most elegant loo in town, the 1,200 sq. ft. space is a powder room lounge with makeup and hair stylists at your service.

Seven is colour cool

Seven

Minimalist mod is the vibe here with punches of vivid backlighting, glass, steel and unique plexi-glass furnishings and wall décor. On the main (Capacity: 300), lucite pillar cruiser tables, glowing from within, rim the backlit bar. A two-storey white plexi-glass wall presides over dance/staging area with embedded moveable projector lights for external spots or internal wall lighting. Customize to corporate colours. A glassed-in mezzanine lounge (dressed in a palette of reds) offers overflow or private entertaining space (Capacity: 180).

This summer, the club’s stunning third-storey patio (wow view!) with retractable glass roof (hats off to year-round access) added an open-air lounge area. Red leather sofa booths with privacy sheers cozy up to a gas fireplace and image-projection waterwall.
