Art Gallery Returns To Event Service

The recent unveiling of the Art Gallery of Ontario’s magnificent makeover puts a favourite cultural venue back on the event market. The opportunity to experience Frank Gehry’s handiwork close up is guaranteed to make for very eager RSVPs. Three main event areas shine with their new good looks.

The third-floor Baillie Court is an event-hosting dream with floor-to-ceiling window views on both the city and the Gallery’s signature spiral staircase and glass roof of Walker Court. The elegant 7,000-sq.-ft. canvas holds receptions of up to 450 and is divisible by three. Jackman Hall puts events on stage with theatre seating for 200, and mod-chic Frank, the AGO’s new restaurant, seats 130 with semi-private area for 40. www.ago.net

“Safe” Event Investment

With weeks still left in the festive party season, and a new calendar year of events in the wings, now’s a good time to review and/or devise a safe drinking-and-driving solution for guests. Taxi Dollars, dubbed Canada’s taxicab currency and sold in bundles of $5 denominations, are accepted by hundreds of cab companies across the nation including Toronto’s major firms.

Ordered online with express delivery available, the vouchers can be either dated for the event night or with a set expiry, helping to prevent abuse of blank cab chits that can overrun costs in your preplanned budget. The voucher lists a dispatch number for easy ordering of participating cab lines. Fares receive a 10% discount. www.taxidollars.com

Fire Plus Air From Dramatic Duo

Goodness Gracious recently added aerial artistry to their signature fire dance repertoire. Co-founded by Natalie Fullerton and Lara Ebata, the company specializes in an ancient fire ritual art form that coordinates movement while spinning lit poi (fire balls on chains) and other fire props. Weaving in the fluidity of aerial rope skills further sparks the spectacle of the duo's circus-calbre performance.

While common sense prevents fire tricks while aerial dancing (those are silk ropes after all!), consider a combination floor and air performance to help fuse together the synchronicity of a spellbinding entertainment package that titillates audiences’ sense of daring. Shows are customized with costuming and music carrying through the event’s themes. www.goodnessgracious.ca
