Year-round Ice Follies
Place a synthetic ice surface where you least expect it. Add in sultry costumes, gorgeous skaters and racy choreography direct from Europe’s famed cabarets including the Lido in Paris and you have Ice C. Canadian figure skater Chantal Fry recently debuted the concept and her troupe Glisse On Ice in Toronto after eight years of performing revue-style ice shows in France.

From outdoor settings to indoor venues, both show and ice surface are customizable to event theme and performance area. The easily installed surface is configurable for different room specs and layouts with the ability to add runway ramps. When not in oooh-la-la mode, Ice C’s performers also offer professional skating demonstrations and workshops on the “real” stuff.

The Trend Is Clear
The classic Chiavari-style chair, popular for its elegant, clean lines, gets a colour update (kind of), with the Ice Chiavari now available from Chair-Man Mills. With a dab of lighting here, a bright splash of table linens there, the clear-resin spindles and chrome-frame chair becomes a décor chameleon colour-shifting to whatever hue catches its transparent beauty.

The chair adds further fuel to the hot see-through trend in décor, tableware, accents and furnishings. Rigid construction reinforced by stainless steel hardware ensures durability. Available with a choice of white, silver, gold and ivory leatherette seat cushions or brown or black fabric.

Cool Treats On Wheels
Freshness strikes the right event chord with Way Cool Smoothies. The first blast of fun is the tricked-out mobile truck with its bright popsicle-coloured retro graphics and groovin' air-ride suspension that drops 8-inches to ground level. The self-contained, outdoor cum interior treat mobile features a 42-inch plasma TV on the outside rear and full audio system for multimedia potential.

Inside, the gleaming stainless steel cold-serve kitchen can whip up over 200 fruit and yogurt smoothies or prepare 100 ice cream cones per hour for crowds of up to 1,000. Razor Raspberry and Bionic Banana top the eight-flavour smoothie menu, with six ice cream flavours for traditionalists. The kitchen runs off hybrid battery power (bye bye stinky diesel generators). Fresh and environmentally friendly–sweet!

A Merger Of Fun
The Ontario division of Kloda Productions and The Great Canadian Amusement Company believe in the power of one with the recent announcement of their merger as the Superior Events Group (pictured from left, Kloda's Evan Aranoff and The Great Canadian Amusement Company's Peter Gismondi). The move brings together the firms' event production expertise and vast inventories of interactive party rentals and amusement games under one roof.

From bouncing castles and casino rentals to concession stands, entertainment and carnival rides, the alliance is perfectly timed for servicing the peak summer season. Along with the ease of one-stop-shopping, the new company spotlights a win-win for planners calling upon the newly enhanced team of logistical experts and creative talent. A product and services catalogue is now available.
